The research for the book, Dogfight Under the Tower, included a vast number of genealogical, family, and military records. William B. Overstreet Jr.’s Official Military Personnel File (OMPF) burned in the NPRC Fire in 1973. However, we were able to reconstruct his military service through Army Company Morning Reports, Individual Flight Records, Air Force Accident Reports, Award Cards, Squadron and Group Histories, along with additional military records.
William was a member of the 363rd Fighter Squadron 357th Fighter Group. On this page, in addition to records related to William’s service, we have also provided unit histories for the 362nd and 364th Fighter Squadrons for 1944 in case other researchers would like to learn more about those who served in those squadrons. We hope what is shared on this page will help future 357th Fighter Group researchers.
